Become a Volunteer

What you need to know before the fun can start!

Orientation: Cats

All volunteers must attend an annual volunteer orientation, held the 1st Saturday of the month at 3 p.m. The orientation will last about 30 minutes. You will learn basic rules and guideline and will receive a tour of the animal shelter. Once the initial orientation is completed, volunteers are permitted to spend time volunteering with cats.

Orientation: Dogs

This class aims to provide basic dog handling skills. There is a certain way in which the shelter dogs should be walked and trained. The goal is to be consistent with the shelter dogs in order to promote good walking and behavior skills. These skills will be helpful in getting the dogs adopted! The class is held the 2nd and 3rd Saturdays of the month at 8:15 a.m.

How Do I Get Started?

Call Macon County Animal Control and Care Center at 217-425-4508 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday-Friday to sign up!
