We offer our gratitude for all veterans of the United States Armed Forces by waiving our adoption costs. This special is separate from the Pets for Patriots program. Thank you for your service to our country.
Pets for Patriots
Are you a veteran searching for a loving companion? Qualifying veterans will be able to adopt an eligible pet with no adoption cost, receive a $150 gift card to a pet supply store, and receive discounted veterinary care for the life of their adopted pet.
How does it work?
Macon County Animal Control and Care Center offers discounted veteran adoption rates and the Decatur and Macon County Animal Shelter Foundation sponsors the remainder of the discounted rate allowing for free veteran adoptions. Pets for Patriots, Inc. provides the gift cards. Local participating veterinary clinics provide discounted vet care for the life of the adopted pets.
Veterans – All men and women in any stage of their military career including active, reserve, inactive reserve, veteran, retired, and National Guard are eligible (restrictions apply).
Pets – Pets for Patriots wishes to give “last-chance” pets a second chance. The pet must be one of the following: 2 years of age or older; a dog over 40 pounds, regardless of age; or, a special needs pet.
How do I get started?
The process begins by going online to petsforpatriots.org to submit the required application and documentation necessary for program consideration. This process can take up to seven days. Veterans will then need to submit an adoption application to the Macon County Animal Control and Care Center. Application approval can take up to 48 hours. Once approved by both Pets for Patriots, Inc. and MCAC, veterans may pick an approved adoptable animal and start the wonderful adoption journey.
